Balmorhea

21 Oct

Balmorhea is a  band that is strongly influenced by classical music and post-rock. They play beautiful instrumental  music that can evoke strong emotions. They are not a very popular band, but one that I think everyone should know. I just bought their latest cd Constellations which came out earlier this year. I love everything they do.

N e Tempo

18 Oct

Spotted N e Tempo at The Brain Trust’s blog. The Brain Trust is a hip-hop and electronic event production company with ties in Boston and NYC. They have worked with many artists like Major Lazer, KiD CuDi, O.T.T, Talib Kweli, EOTO, Rusko, Telepath, Brothers Past. N e Tempo really stood out to me as a duo that could really tear up the dance floor. Their music runs through the electronic genres covering dub step, breakbeat, house and downtempo. They have opened for big acts in the electronic scene including EOTO, Big Gigantic and Orchard Lounge. I really dig this band so check them out on Facebook and enjoy.

The Orb feat. David Gilmour

12 Oct

The Orb dropped their new album today title Metallic Spheres in collaboration with the great David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Gilmour is featured at the forefront of the album with his guitar loops and improvisations giving it a very Floydian quality. Gilmour’s melodic and rhythmic guitar is a great addition to the Orb’s electronic back beats. The album is set up on two sides the “Metallic Side” and the “Sphere Side”. Each side is a collection of songs that melt seamlessly into each other. This a very cool album and its awesome to hear that David Gilmour listens to modern electronica music 🙂 Pick up the whole album on iTunes here.

Beats Antique Live

3 Oct

This is a Beats Antique concert that was streamed live over the internet a few weeks ago. I know its long but if you have the time its really worth watching the whole thing. My favorite song would have to be at either 26:00 or 31:00. It gets pretty funny at 44:00 as well 🙂 Their music fuses  underground hip hop, breakbeat brass band, downtempo, glitch and dubstep behind a curtain of middle eastern belly dancing (17:00) flavor. The violin and sitar brings sounds that are rarely heard in their genre. Also below is a couple track off of their new album Blind Threshold which you can pick up here.

Lauren Keys Shpongle Cover

2 Oct

I guess I kinda missed the boat on this being that Lost In Sound posted this on Wednesday but I thought it was so cool that I needed to post it anyway. This is a live piano cover by Lauren Keys of Shpongle’s “Divine Moments of Truth” – performed using a dual layer piano/guitar sample for added dimension. Very cool stuff enjoy!

Bonobo

25 Sep

Hey everybody this is JGreens writing you my first post for TUYS. I have been talking music with the Klep Bros for years and I am glad they are letting me share some music on this blog. As far as my musical preferences go, I try not to discriminate. I am always looking for interesting and creative music, whether it be new or old.
One of my favorite DJs/Producer is Simon Green aka Bonobo. If you like chillen out to down-tempo DJs you should definitely check him out. The thing that makes him stand out is his live performances. He plays with a full band that consists of a singer, keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist, string section, electronics, and drummer. Simon Green mainly plays bass guitar, and leads the band. His live sets usually have hints of jazz, electronica, reggae, and funk. But, he is always enhancing his style so no two shows will be the same. Bottom line, he is a great show to see and he will be coming to NYC at Webster Hall Nov. 8 so check him out yourself. I posted a short mix of his newest album, Black Sands which was released this March and one of his DJ sets for your listening pleasure. Enjoy

Artist Spotlight: Beam&Deem

15 Sep

I actually just discovered Beam&Deem a few days ago and with the drop of two new studio mixes I fell in love. This duo has everything you could want in an electronic band and they mix elements of many electronic genres into their music. They say it best, “In an era where the evolution of music involves merging mind with technology, Beam&Deem offers a breath of life into the machine, generating a unique sound that will shake both your mind and your behind.” Normally, I would put the tracks here for you all to download however Beam&Deem have posted them free on their site here. They are also asking for donations 100% of which will go to the charity Talk About Curing Autism. Definitely check these mixes and go donate to a great cause.
