Hudson Mohawke: BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix

29 Oct

The BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes never cease to amaze me. One of my favorite EMs is Hudson Mohawke. His gltichy hip hop style is one of a kind. In this mix you’ll hear Hudson Mo’s  spin on Lil Wayne, Ludacris, Twista, Pharell and much more.

A Journey Through J. Dilla’s Rock Crates Part I

29 Oct

j-dilla-sometimes.jpg J Dilla image by Victor_Aguero

J Dilla (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006) was a DJ with an incredible ear for samples. This is a mix by a DJ named Bowls who uses J Dilla’s rock samples to make a mix of his own. This  mix really shows how diverse  Dilla’s taste in music was. He was very patient. He listened for good samples in songs and wasn’t afraid to let it play long. Its a 37 min mix, I recommend listening to the whole thing. (my favorite  parts are around 7:00 & 25:30.) Its a very unique chill mix.

Alex B

27 Oct

Alex B is a good guy to know if you are into the hip hop electronica scene. He is a cool DJ who has been traveling around to festivals and making a name for himself. He is signed to 1320 Records which has so many great acts on it (sts9, eskmo, big gigantic, bassnectar, emancipator, and pretty lights just to name a few). He is playing in Ithaca Nov 19th @ the Thumpty Music Frat at Cornell and this show will benefit the Conscious Alliance, an organization that helps deliver food to impoverished communities in the United States. If you’re in the area come by and support the cause, I’ll be there.  If you want more info on Alex B check his website out http://www.alexbeats.com/.

Artist Spotlight: Time Crisis

1 Oct

I spotted Time Crisis over at Lost In Sound and I had to share them. Time Crisis is the newest project from Fameless Fam. Adding electronic music to any genre makes it better and that’s exactly what Time Crisis has done. Their music explores genres from hip-hop to post rock and blurs the lines of separate genres. They are a great band and worth a listen. Get their whole album from iTunes here.
