The MacPodz describe themselves as “Alien Exhaust Jazz Meets Townie F**K Rock.. One of the coolest party’s on planet earth!” Now just because I have no idea what that means doesn’t mean that this band isn’t amazing. One of the only guitar-less, five piece jambands I know of, The MacPodz’ music stretches from jazz to funk and everything in between. It actually took me about 10 minutes of listening before I realized that they don’t have a guitarist. Bass, trumpet, percussion/flute, keys, and drums is a rather refreshing break from the stereotypical model of what a jamband is. The MacPodz are definitely a band that should be in any music lovers ipod. Here’s a live recording of them performing at All Good Music Festival this past summer (the whole show is awesome but Track Four is especially cool because a short beatbox/flute solo). For more shows check out their archive page here.
Mash ups are very popular these days, but because they are so easy to make there are a lot of bad ones out there. I have come across a few mix tapes that truly stand out. These beats and samples are chopped up perfectly and make cool new songs. Check them out:

For those of you who are Umphrey’s fans you know that it isn’t unusual for Umphrey’s to play awesome covers. I just thought I’d share this one because we’ve posted the video and mp3. Oh and cause it’s a sweet cover. Enjoy!
Something great aways results when you have a band whose music acts as a voice for social change. “This is the essence of Thousands Of One – to build connections between people and live inspired lives, striving to bring that inspiration into the world around us.” Thousands Of One’s music covers a large spectrum of music from hip-hop to rock and reggae, jazz, Motown, West African drumming, funk and soul. Their music has moved crowds around the country as much as their activism has and their album SoulForce is definitely worth downloading on iTunes. If you’re interested in getting involved in with some of their social movements you can check them out on their website here.
Not only did I hit the road to bring you guys a live concert experience, I am also proud to announce that this will be our first Local Music Artist Spotlight! The Knowmads are a four piece band hailing from Marlboro, NJ. Although the band has only been together for a little over a month, the chemistry between the band members is incredible. They are all very talented musicians who really have a feel for music. Their jams are awesome and make you want to dance and their ability to seamlessly change genres on a dime serves as a tribute to their talent. This is the second show they have ever played together and it was a great time (I wasn’t at their first show because I was seeing Sound Tribe Sector 9). The members have gone off to college for now but come Thanksgiving Break I will hopefully have some new music from The Knowmads for everyone to enjoy. I’ve posted some live videos along with a sound board recording so that everyone can put them on their ipods and and enjoy their music on the go 🙂
P.S. If any other bands want us to post their music, feel free to email your stuff with a small description of the band to email@example.com

I discovered One Mighty Atom a while back and fell in love with their unique style of psychedelic funk music. I really don’t know very much about them. Their website http://www.onemightyatom.com/ has access to download their music, a very strange description of the band, and a few articles about some festivals they played but other than that it doesn’t look like the band is very active. Regardless they are a very cool band and are definitely worth a listen.
Did you get a chance to see Umphrey’s Mcgee this past Saturday? Well in case you didn’t, Turn Up Your Speakers went on the road, armed with video cameras, to bring the concert experience right to your computer. If you don’t know who Umphrey’s Mcgee is, they are one of our favorite bands. We wrote a description about them in our first post, but just to reiterate, they are an unbelievable jam band comprised of extremely talented musicians, who put on an amazing show. Lucky for you, Turn Up Your Speakers is bringing you this amazing show (they have a crazy light show too too) directly to you. But what if you say, “This show is amazing! I wish I was there (sad face). Where can I get more?” Don’t worry. We have you covered. You can stream and download this show in its entirety for FREE right here. Check these videos out!
