A Journey Through J. Dilla’s Rock Crates Part I

29 Oct

j-dilla-sometimes.jpg J Dilla image by Victor_Aguero

J Dilla (February 7, 1974 – February 10, 2006) was a DJ with an incredible ear for samples. This is a mix by a DJ named Bowls who uses J Dilla’s rock samples to make a mix of his own. This  mix really shows how diverse  Dilla’s taste in music was. He was very patient. He listened for good samples in songs and wasn’t afraid to let it play long. Its a 37 min mix, I recommend listening to the whole thing. (my favorite  parts are around 7:00 & 25:30.) Its a very unique chill mix.

Cold War Kids – Royal Blue

21 Oct

Awesome new Cold War Kids! We’ve posted these guys once before and I really enjoy their music. This songs a little bit lighter then older Cold War Kids, but it’s a great new sound. This track is from their upcoming album Mine Is Yours, which releases January 25th, 2011. Credit goes to We All Want Something To Shout For.

Times Of Grace

17 Oct
This is not normally the type of music we post however I grew up listening to metal bands like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and August Burns Red and when I heard this song I had to post it. Adam Dutkiewicz (guitarist of Killswitch Engage) and Jesse Leach (former singer of Killswitch Engage) have reunited to form the new group Times Of Grace. Their new single “Strength In Numbers” off their upcoming album The Hymn of a Broken Man is more than just a heavy, head banging drumbeat and thrashing guitar riffs. Beneath the surface, the layered vocal melodies gives the song depth and an extra kick of awesome. The Hymn of a Broken Man will be released November 9  and I’m excited to see what else this duo has in store for us.

Exciting news from the world of Umphrey’s McGee! Starting this fall, Umphrey’s will begin rolling out some new music for all of us to enjoy. To kick things off they have released a new studio single titled “Wellwishers”. Its a pretty chill track and it definitely has potential for some wicked live jams.

Artist Spotlight: Los Lonely Boys

22 Sep

So I found about the Los Lonely Boys from my iTunes library. I was scrolling through exploring my music, nostalgically listening songs I haven’t listen to while, and when I got to them I clicked on their song “My Way” and I was like why have I never listened to these guys before? They are awesome! I look online for some more music by them and I found out that I did actually know a song by them, “Heaven”, which was number one the charts in 2004. Their latin rhythms and their awesome rock riffs are great and they are definitely worth a listen. So check them out.
