New Pretty Lights EP

23 Oct

The time we have been waiting for has arrived. Pretty Lights has released the third and final installment of his EP trilogy, Glowing In The Dark, and it does not disappoint. Although its a little mellower than his last two EPs it still has the electro hip-hop flair that we all expect. The EP has found a balance of sick beats, great samples and electronic instrumentals. I haven’t posted anything in a while because of midterms and what not and I am happy this is my first post back. Download the whole EP at Pretty Lights website here.

Bonobo

25 Sep

Hey everybody this is JGreens writing you my first post for TUYS. I have been talking music with the Klep Bros for years and I am glad they are letting me share some music on this blog. As far as my musical preferences go, I try not to discriminate. I am always looking for interesting and creative music, whether it be new or old.
One of my favorite DJs/Producer is Simon Green aka Bonobo. If you like chillen out to down-tempo DJs you should definitely check him out. The thing that makes him stand out is his live performances. He plays with a full band that consists of a singer, keyboardist, guitarist, saxophonist, string section, electronics, and drummer. Simon Green mainly plays bass guitar, and leads the band. His live sets usually have hints of jazz, electronica, reggae, and funk. But, he is always enhancing his style so no two shows will be the same. Bottom line, he is a great show to see and he will be coming to NYC at Webster Hall Nov. 8 so check him out yourself. I posted a short mix of his newest album, Black Sands which was released this March and one of his DJ sets for your listening pleasure. Enjoy

Artist Spotlight: Beam&Deem

15 Sep

I actually just discovered Beam&Deem a few days ago and with the drop of two new studio mixes I fell in love. This duo has everything you could want in an electronic band and they mix elements of many electronic genres into their music. They say it best, “In an era where the evolution of music involves merging mind with technology, Beam&Deem offers a breath of life into the machine, generating a unique sound that will shake both your mind and your behind.” Normally, I would put the tracks here for you all to download however Beam&Deem have posted them free on their site here. They are also asking for┬ádonations 100% of which will go to the charity Talk About Curing Autism. Definitely check these mixes and go donate to a great cause.

A Visit to the Electric Zoo

13 Sep

I was stumbling through the music blogosphere today and while I visited our friends at 201BEATS, I found that they posted a sick review of some of the bands that played at Electric Zoo. I know E Zoo was two weeks ago, but I just couldn’t help posting some of the songs. Unfortunately, we were unable to attend however 201BEATS wrote a great post full of videos and pictures that you should all check out here. It looked like an amazing festival and I am definitely considering going next year.
